This is your LIFE 02/07/2012
This happens to be a company's manifesto but it was created before the company was formed, which means it came from the heart and the author's meant every word. What would your manifesto be if you would write one for yourself? What brings joy into your life? What makes you most happy? How would you want to live your life? Irony of the Green Thing 02/04/2012
_ Found this piece quite funny and sad at the same time. Enjoy! The Green Thing Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days." The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation didn’t care enough to save our environment for future generations." She was right --our generation didn't have the green thing in its day. Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they were really recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day. We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day. Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right. We didn't have the green thing back in our day. Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house, not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right. We didn't have the green thing back then. We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus, and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint. But isn't it sad the current generation has to lament how wasteful we old folks were because we didn't have the green thing back then? Please forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smartass young person. Remember: Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to pi.. us off. Great care free song to help you get up: To stretch To dance To let loose To appreciate what you've got a little more Have a wonderful fun day everyone!!! Each day we are bombarded by information, technology, stress to be successful and provide. Try not to lose sight of: "Working to live and not living to work." Be responsible but live to have fun and enjoy life. The moment you "chase", is the moment you have given up a Whether you are a winter or summer sport person....there is always something fun and active to do. What activities are you doing that is exhilarating, active, fun and challenging? Life is really too short for us not to at least try out a few fun & active sports to boost your spirit, confidence and to give you a more positive outlook on life. Have fun everyone!!! Have fun and be young of mind 01/04/2012
So another year has gone by? So what? Does that mean you should stop or slow down or play it safe? Of course not. There are always opportunities out there for you to seize and make it your own. What will you be doing different in 2012: -to set yourself apart? -to feel better? -to be more happy and productive? -to be more you? Remember its not the age....it is being young of mind. Happy New Year Everyone! 12/31/2011
_Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us. ---Hal Borland--- Ring out the old, ring in the new, Ring, happy bells, across the snow: The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false, ring in the true. ---Alfred, Lord Tennyson, 1850--- For last year's words belong to last year's language And next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning. ---T.S. Eliot, "Little Gidding"--- Glory to God in highest heaven, Who unto man His Son hath given; While angels sing with tender mirth, A glad new year to all the earth. ---Martin Luther--- Irish blessings for Hannukah and Christmas 12/24/2011
_May you always have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire, laughter to cheer you, those you love near you, and all your heart might desire. May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields and, Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. May you have love that never ends, lots of money, and lots of friends. Health be yours, whatever you do, and may God send many blessings to you! This poem was sent to me by my mentor James M.
